The Social Security Administration (SSA) brings attention to eldercare abuse in a recent online newsletter as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15, 2014 draws closer. The newsletter states that the majority of the SSA’s beneficiaries are retirees so they take a special interest in drawing awareness to this issue.
The first World Elder Abuse Awareness Day took place in 2006. This project was developed by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness and provide people with a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older people. This project also wants to prevent future abuse and neglect of older people.
