Why is my Work History Report so important?

Far too often, individuals filing for Social Security disability don’t think when they fill out their Work History Report. It is vital to an applicant’s claim that whenever a document is submitted to the Social Security Administration it be filled out as completely and accurately as possible. For the Work History Report, this requires thinking about the types of things that were done in the process of previous jobs. Accuracy is important because a question that arises in disability proceedings is whether or not a person can return to a job they previously held, performing that job either the way it is generally performed in the national economy or as they performed it previously. If a person says that they lifted a maximum of five pounds at their previous job when they really lifted a maximum of fifty pounds, it would not be surprising for someone to say that they could return to a job they couldn’t possible handle. While this is just an example, hopefully it illustrates why any claimant would be well served by taking their time in filling out their Work History Report, and why they should think about their answers carefully.
