Even if you have representation on your claim for Disability Insurance Benefits or Supplemental Security Income benefits, you can take certain actions that can positively impact your claim. At Greeman Toomey, you will be assigned a case manager who will be working with you closely on your claim. It is important that you keep them up to date with the following information.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) bases the majority of disability decisions on medical evidence. It is very important that you get medical treatment for your impairment(s). If you do not have medical insurance, check with your state or county welfare offices to see if there are any medical assistance programs you are eligible to receive. If you do not qualify for medical assistance, check your area for free or reduced price clinics.
It is very important that you notify your case manager where you are receiving medical treatment. Please contact our office right away if you go to a new clinic or hospital. Please also provide information regarding any new diagnoses or medical tests.
Inform your medical providers that you have filed a claim for Social Security Disability. If you have a doctor who would support your claim, advise your case manager right away. Our office can send that doctor an assessment regarding any physical or mental restrictions and limitations you may have. Receiving a supportive statement from your doctor is beneficial for your claim.
It is also important to respond to any correspondence sent by the SSA as quickly as possible. Many documents that the SSA sends have strict deadlines. Not responding to the SSA may result in a denial on your claim.
If you have questions regarding any correspondence you receive, contact your case manager right away.
In addition, contact your case manager as soon as possible if any of your contact information changes. Due to the deadlines and time sensitive responses required by the SSA, it is important that our office be able to get in touch with you in a timely fashion.
