Social Security Extends Access to Benefit Verification Letters

In a recent press release issued on July 17, 2014, the Social Security Administration (SSA) announces that it will continue to provide benefit verification letters at the local field offices. The SSA has started providing many services online in recent years; however, the SSA has decided that this service will continue to be provided at the local field offices based on feedback received from members of Congress, community stakeholders and agency partners.

The press release quotes Acting Commissioner Carolyn W. Colvin, stating “We recognize that some members of the public may require in-person assistance and we will have a presence in local communities…We also want to ensure that the public is aware that they can access many of our services without making a trip to a local field office.”
