The Social Security Administration (SSA) website was created in 1994. For the past 20 years, the SSA has been providing information and services online. According to the website, it currently offers more than 20 different online services and features electronic copies of all of the SSA’s publications.
The SSA website provides these online services for people who are receiving benefits, for people in the process of applying of benefits, and for people who are still working.
For people currently receiving benefits, the SSA allows them to create a “My Social Security” account. You can create the account by going to the SSA’s website. Please click here for a direct link.
After you have created your account, you are able to request a benefit verification letter, check benefits and payment information, or view your earnings record. You can also use the account to change your address and phone number, and start or change direct deposit of benefits.
People filing for disability, retirement, or Medicare benefits are also able to submit their applications online. Applicants are also able to check the status of their claims online and submit necessary appeals.
For people who are still working, the SSA website provides online access to Social Security statements. There is also a retirement estimator and future benefit planning tools. You can view your statement by creating a “My Social Security” account.
