Social Security Administration Personalizes Online Services

In a press release issued January 7, 2013, the Social Security Administration (SSA) announced it would start offering more online services.  The SSA website now has a my Social Security portal that allows anyone over the age of 18 to create an account.

This account will allow the user to view their Social Security statement. For people who are currently receiving Social Security Retirement, Disability Insurance Benefits or Supplemental Security Income benefits the my Social Security service allows them to view their benefit verification letter, payment history, and earnings record instantly using their online account. People receiving benefits will also be able to change their address and bank account information online.

The ability to access these features online allows the person seeking information to have instant access. They will no longer need to visit their local SSA office or call the SSA on the phone. The my Social Security portal also provides the account holder with information on how to apply for retirement benefits, disability benefits and Medicare.

Besides the increased convenience for the public, this saves the SSA money and resources.  Social Security employees will also have increased time to focus on other tasks.
