Reporting Your Income

When you start receiving either Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits it is important to keep Social Security up to date of all of your income, especially if there is a significant change in income. Income can change depending on employment or other types of governmental benefits and this could change eligibility for either type of program. Keeping Social Security informed of all income will help ensure that there are not major inconveniences in the future. One major inconvenience could be that a beneficiary receives benefits or an improper amount of benefits that could result in an overpayment. If an overpayment occurs, Social Security is likely to inform the beneficiary and ask for any overpayment returned to their office. There is an easy way to keep Social Security informed of income through its online accounts.
