Public Health Announcement: Meningitis Outbreak Linked to Lumbar Injections

Please be aware that the Center for Disease Control has indicated that there is a multi-state meningitis outbreak caused from contaminated steroid injections.

If you received lumbar epidural steroid injections of the drug methylprednisolone acetate, you should talk to your doctor about any potential risks.

If you have received a potentially contaminated lumbar epidural steroid injection from MAPS clinic in Minnesota, the MinnesotaSurgeryCenter, or any another facility affiliated with this outbreak, call Greeman Toomey immediately at 1-877-332-3252.

The Center for Disease Control is working to stem this outbreak, with the cooperation of all effected corporations and clinics. Direct information on what you can do to protect yourself can be found on the Center for Disease Control’s website.

Right now, it appears that contaminated steroids have been distributed to 23 States, but there are only confirmed cases of meningitis in ten of those States. The most important thing is to be aware of the risk, and to make sure you do not receive any methylprednisolone acetate lumbar epidural steroid injections until you have talked to your doctor about this outbreak.
