There are no definitive answers to this question. However, it generally takes the Administrative Law Judge (and his team) one to three months from the date of your hearing to issue a hearing decision. Keep in mind that the hearing decision is a long letter (typically 10-20 pages) that explains the rationale behind the Judge’s conclusion about your disability. To properly evaluate a case, the Judge must cite to the information contained in your medical records. Often times, the claimants will find detailed citations to the medical record as well as the hearing testimony in the hearing decision. Thus, the drafting process for the hearing decision can be time consuming especially considering the large quantities of medical records the Judge must review. The best thing you can do after the hearing is to continue attending all the doctors’ appointments and patiently wait for a hearing decision.
