Cost of Living Adjustment for Social Security Benefits Delayed Due to Shutdown

As discussed previously on the Greeman Toomey blog, the annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for Social Security Disability is based on changes in the consumer price index in the past year.  For more details on exactly how the COLA is computed, and how changes in computation may change benefits, visit the Social Security Administration’s website.

Due to the current government shutdown, the Congressional Budget Office is unable to publish economic statistics for September.  Without these numbers being officially published, any report about the 2014 COLA is premature.
