Waiting on Social Security seems like a never-ending prospect. Anyone who has gone through the Social Security disability process knows this all too well. Most people have to wait years before they ever see a payment from Social Security during the disability process, but official notification that a disability case is successful unfortunately doesn’t stop the constant waiting. People who have been approved for disability want to know when they can expect their first disability payment. Sometimes payments might seem that they come at random times, but Social Security actually issues payments based on birthdates.
As you can see from Social Security’s calendar, Social Security issues payments on Wednesdays. People whose birthdays are from the first of the month through the 10th are issued payments on the second Wednesday of each month. Everyone who has a birthday from the 11th to the 20th of the month is issued payments on the third Wednesday of the month. People whose birthdays fall between the 21st and 31st of the month are issued payments on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
This schedule is a general outline, so if you don’t see your payments exactly when expected, don’t get too concerned. As is the case with all Social Security business, extra waiting might be in order. According to Social Security, “if you don’t receive your payment on the expected date, please allow three additional mailing days before contacting Social Security.”
If three days have come and gone from the date you were supposed to receive your Social Security payment, you should contact Social Security to inquire about your payment. You may call your local Social Security office, or contact Social Security’s national toll-free number 800-772-1213. Because waiting is the name of the game for Social Security, you are likely to be on hold for a while before reaching a live agent from Social Security.
