ALJ Arrested In Connection With Crash

A Florida Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) was arrested on suspicion of DUI and leaving the scene of a crash after driving the wrong way on a highway and striking another vehicle, according to police records.

Arline Colon, 49, was identified as the driver. She is an ALJ in Social Security’s St. Petersburg hearing office. According to a story in the Tampa Bay Times, Colon was driving her vehicle south in the northbound lane of the highway and struck another vehicle. Colon did not stop the vehicle after the crash, but the vehicle came to a stop after about another mile when the front axle of the vehicle snapped. The driver of the vehicle that was struck by Colon was no seriously injured.

Colon was being held without bail by authorities. It was discovered that she was arrested on a different charge earlier this year for falsely reporting a domestic abuse allegation.

Bush’s Important Contribution

In honor of the recent passing of former President George H.W. Bush, the Motley Fool remembered an important contribution the former president made to Social Security. The following is what the Motley Fool reported.

“Under George H.W. Bush, the single-most memorable [Social Security] moment was the signing of the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA) on Dec. 19, 1989. OBRA contained 25 separate provisions related to Social Security, which included the requirement that the Social Security Administration send personal earning and benefit statements to persons working under Social Security. These statements allow workers to estimate what they’ll receive from the program if claiming at full retirement age.”

To this day, Social Security continues to send out benefit statements to Americans periodically so they can keep up with their earnings and records related to their Social Security benefits, which is something most Americans now take for granted.
