Since the evening of August 25, Hurricane Harvey has ravaged the Texas Gulf Coast dumping more than 20 inches of rain in some areas and more is to come. Tens of thousands of people have evacuated the area, but it is too early to know the full impact of this storm because the misery for many has not ended yet.
The flooding in Houston alone has brought the city to a halt and the airports in the city have shut down until further notice. At least one Social Security office in Houston was closed Monday; it is unclear what, if any, other offices are open for business as of August 28. Nancy Berryhill, Social Security’s acting commissioner said that many employees of Social Security in the area had to evacuate the area, but was unable to provide any more information about how offices are going to operate in the area.
“As we experienced over the last few days the absolute devastation of Hurricane Harvey, we are pleased to report that all SSA and DDS employees in Texas and Louisiana are safe and accounted for, though many sustained property damage and have evacuated from their homes.
Please keep those affected by the flooding in your thoughts and prayers as this storm continues. We will provide additional information as it emerges,” Berryhill wrote in a message to all Social Security employees.
Proposed changes being offered to Musculoskeletal Listing
Social Security has asked the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), to approve changes to its listings on musculoskeletal disorders. The public won’t be able to see what the new listing looks like until the OMB approvals the proposal. It will then be published, allowing the public to comment or suggest any changes to the listing.
